About the show

About

_Ragtime_ is a sweeping musical adaption of **E.L. Doctorow**’s novel that follows three fictional families in pursuit of the American Dream at the dawn of the 20th Century: Black pianist Coalhouse Walker, Jr. and his beloved Sarah, Jewish immigrant Tateh and his little girl, and a wealthy white family led by matriarch Mother. All grasping for the same dream, if only they can hold on to it.
Featuring a lush score by **Stephen Flaherty** and **Lynn Ahrens**, a stirring book by **Terrence McNally** and original orchestrations by **William David Brohn**, all of whom won Tony Awards for their work, _Ragtime_ weaves fictional narratives with real historical figures and events, creating a rich tapestry that blurs the line between personal struggle and national identity, making history feel both intimate and epic.
Incoming LCT Artistic Director **Lear deBessonet** (Tony-nominated for her celebrated 2022 revival of _Into the Woods_) directs a new production, envisioned for the grand Vivian Beaumont stage, starring Tony nominee **Joshua Henry** (_Into the Woods_, _Carousel_), Olivier and Grammy nominee **Caissie Levy** (_Hair_, _Frozen_), and Tony winner **Brandon Uranowitz** (_Leopoldstadt_, LCT's _Falsettos_).

Vivian Beaumont Theater

The Vivian Beaumont Theater, located within the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, opened to the public on October 21, 1965. Designed by renowned architect Eero Saarinen, the theater was named in honor of philanthropist Vivian Beaumont Allen, who contributed significantly to its construction. The Beaumont is distinguished by its flexible stage design, allowing for both thrust and proscenium configurations, and is the only Broadway theater situated outside the traditional Theater District. Operated by the nonprofit Lincoln Center Theater since 1985, it has become a prominent venue for a diverse array of productions, contributing to its status as a cornerstone of New York City's cultural landscape.
