About the show

About

1970s, Ohio. Lizzie gathers a group of women to talk about changing their lives, and the world. What follows is a necessary, messy, and bitingly funny exploration of what it means to be free, and to be a woman. In _Liberation_, Lizzie’s daughter steps into her mother’s memory—into the unfinished revolution she once helped ignite—and searches the past to find the answer for herself. “The best play I’ve seen this season.”—Sara Holdren, _New York Magazine_.
Tony Award® nominees **Bess Wohl** (Grand Horizons) and **Whitney White** (Jaja’s African Hair Braiding) present a refreshingly irreverent and intensely relevant powerhouse of a play about what we inherit, what we forget, and what we’re still fighting to understand.

James Earl Jones Theatre

The James Earl Jones Theatre, formerly known as the Cort Theatre, is a historic Broadway venue that opened in 1912. Designed by architect Thomas W. Lamb, the theatre's facade was inspired by the Petit Trianon at Versailles, featuring a three-story, marble-faced Corinthian colonnade—a distinctive feature among Broadway theatres. The interior boasts significant architectural elements, including plaster cameos, a mural, and a unique proscenium arch adorned with plasterwork and art glass. In 2022, the theatre was renamed to honor the celebrated actor James Earl Jones, who made his Broadway debut at this venue in 1958. With a seating capacity of approximately 1,092, the James Earl Jones Theatre continues to host a variety of acclaimed productions, contributing to its enduring legacy in New York City's vibrant theatre scene.
